Final Round Notes

Sean O’Hair and Steve Stricker, who led after 18 holes with a 15-under 57 and shared the 36-hole lead at 18-under 126, posted an 8-under 64 to claim a two-stroke victory in the QBE Shootout at 26-under 190.

Stricker’s 10-foot putt for birdie at No. 9, the team’s third-straight birdie, tied team McDowell/Lowry for the lead at 22-under-par. On the inward nine, the duo made additional birdies at Nos. 11, 14 and the eagle-three at No. 17.

Second-Round Notes

The only internationals in this year’s QBE Shootout field, Graeme McDowell and Shane Lowry (Northern Ireland and Ireland, respectively) used an eagle-birdie start at Nos 1 and 2 to fashion an 8-under 64. In addition to an eagle-three at the first hole, the duo claimed birdies at Nos. 2, 7, 8, 10, 13 and 15.

The lowest score in Modified Alternate Shot belongs to the 1990 team of Fred Couples and Raymond Floyd (57).

First-Round Notes

Sean O’Hair and Steve Stricker birdied seven of their first eight holes en route to a 15-under 57. On the inward nine, the duo made birdies at Nos. 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 18. The team made eagle at the par-5 17th and Stricker chipped in from just off the green for the final birdie at the par-4 18th hole.

O’Hair is making his seventh appearance in the QBE Shootout, having won with Kenny Perry in 2012. Stricker is playing for a 10th consecutive time and was a part of the 2009 winning team with Jerry Kelly. Stricker and Kelly finished second in last year’s QBE Shootout.

Tournament Notes For December 5, 2017

For the 17th consecutive year, the QBE Shootout comes to Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples and 24 individuals will compete as 12 two-person teams. The event is celebrating its 29th year on the PGA TOUR calendar. The tournament is the longest running PGA TOUR-sanctioned post-season event. Here are some notes regarding what has become a favorite annual gathering for professionals, amateurs and fans.

Twelve Teams Announced for QBE Shootout

NAPLES, Fla. (November 7, 2017) – Tournament Host Greg Norman announced today the 12 two-person teams for the QBE Shootout which returns to Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples, December 6-10.

The 24-person field features 15 of the top 50 ranked players in the world who have amassed 14 victories in the past year. Eight past champions, including two winning teams, are also in the field and six players will be competing in the $3.3 million event for the first time.

QBE Shootout Field Announced; 24 of the World’s Best Heading to Southwest Florida

NAPLES, Fla. (October 30, 2017) – Tournament host Greg Norman announced today the 24 players set to compete in the 2017 QBE Shootout, scheduled for December 6-10.

Fifteen of the top 50 players in the world will comprise this year’s field which includes Lexi Thompson, the highest ranked American player on the LPGA Tour at No.3, as well as defending champions Harris English and Matt Kuchar, who’s ranked No. 14 in the world on the men’s circuit.

Harris English & Matt Kuchar Set to Defend Title; LPGA Superstar Lexi Thompson Returning to Compete

NAPLES, Fla. (October 16, 2017) – One of the more dominant teams in QBE Shootout history will defend its title when the PGA TOUR’s longest-running Challenge Event returns December 6-10 to Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Resort, Naples.

In addition, Lexi Thompson, the highest-ranked American player on the LPGA Tour, is scheduled to make her second consecutive appearance, becoming the first female player in tournament history to play multiple times in the QBE Shootout.

QBE Shootout Announces Purse Increase and Broadcast Details

NAPLES, Fla. (May 16, 2017) – The QBE Shootout recently announced a purse increase, broadcast details and changes to field qualifying criteria for the 2017 event scheduled for December 6-10 at the Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Resort, Naples.

QBE’s partnership will allow the Shootout to increase the tournament purse by $400,000 over the next three years. The 2016 purse was $3.1 million and will increase to $3.3 million this year, followed by a purse of $3.4 million in 2018 and in 2019 the 24-player field will compete for $3.5 million.

The QBE Shootout will also have a new broadcast partner and will return to a Sunday finish with the Golf Channel broadcasting all three competitive rounds.

Global Insurer QBE To Be Title Sponsor of Greg Norman’s PGA TOUR Event

NAPLES, Fla. (April 11, 2017) – QBE, one of the largest insurers and reinsurers worldwide, and tournament host Greg Norman, announced today an agreement in which QBE will become the title sponsor of Southwest Florida’s annual PGA TOUR Challenge Season stop, now titled the QBE Shootout.

The Shootout, which has been a mainstay on the TOUR for 28 years, will be held December 6-10 at the Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples. The PGA TOUR co-sanctioned event will continue to raise awareness and funds for a variety of worthy charitable causes.
